Former President of Finland Tarja Halonen was invited by the Finnish Embassy in Beirut and Finnish Institute in the Middle East to participate in a seminar about women’s political participation on the 22nd of February. The event gathered Lebanese women from women’s organisations and political parties, as well as female candidates for spring’s general election election. President Halonen emphasised the importance of cooperation, and that breaking the glass ceiling once is not enough and that reaching equality is an ongoing process everywhere.
”I’ve been interviewed about how to break a glass ceiling. I have answered: once is not enough. For me, gender equality not a still photo: the process creates new goals, and continuous work is necessary.”
