Explore the Middle East

The Finnish Institute in the Middle East brings the Middle East expertly and comprehensively to you. FIME publishes two blog series and podcasts on the Lähi-itä NYT website. In the blog series and podcast, experts and those who live or visit the Middle East bring the Middle East, its cultures, phenomena and events vividly to the readers.

In the Lähi-itä NYT blog (Middle East NOW), experts write about current events in the Middle East and their research topics.

In the Paikan päältä blog (On site), the authors talk about their personal experiences of living and working in the Middle East.

Lähi-itä NYT podcasts interview Middle East experts about their work, publications, research and experiences. The interviewers are FIME employees.

The Levant Letters, on the other hand, is a series of expert writings based on scientific research written in a general sense on topics related to the Middle East. The writings are related to both the present and the past and, even though the writing series ended in 2019, you can find interesting timeless reading in its archives.

FIME published the Mosaiikki (Mosaic) blog between 2014 and 2018. The blog discussed different aspects of the Middle East and was written by Finns living in or visiting the Middle East, and experts of the region.
