The Finnish Institute in the Middle East (FIME), in collaboration with Tampere University, is pleased to invite applications for the course Global Palestine: Tracing the Shifting Horizons of Violence and Power (5 ECTS).
The course examines Palestine’s role in global circuits of violence, capital, technology, and politics. It explores the entanglements between global and local processes, colonialism and imperialism, capital and geopolitics, and considers Palestine as a site where these forces are produced, contested, and transformed.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, the course provides conceptual and methodological tools for critically examining the connections between Palestine and wider global processes. Topics include new technologies, war and the environment, academic institutions, political and social movements, military supply chains, capitalist elites, security and surveillance, and emerging forms of everyday life and resistance.
The course brings together leading scholars working across geography, anthropology, political theory, international relations, environmental humanities, and science and technology studies.

Target group
The course is intended for Master’s-level students. Applications are welcome from students at Finnish universities and Nordic universities.
Completion requirements
Students are expected to complete the preparatory readings, participate in the online lectures, and submit a weekly reflective lecture diary.
Selection
The course is limited to 30 participants. Selection will be based on the applicant’s stage of studies, the relevance of the course to their academic field or focus, and the order in which applications are received.
