In her talk HE Ambassador Anne Meskanen will introduce Finland as a country multiple times elected as “the happiest country in the world”. A pervasive factor for Finland’s foreign policy has been its neighborhood with Russia. A brief look at this relationship opens to the current situation where Finland recently joined NATO and takes steps in the changing global political scene. Discussion. Wine and nibbles will be served.

Speaker bio

HE Ambassador Anne Meskanen currently serves as the Ambassador of Finland to Lebanon and Jordan and Chargée d’Affairs for Syria. Her diplomatic career spans over three decades and includes previous positions such as Head of Mission a.i. of EUAM Iraq, Ambassador of Finland in Afghanistan, Chargée d’Affairs in Kosovo, and Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women Issues and Gender Equality. Prior to her career in diplomacy, she worked as a journalist covering both Finnish and global politics.
