Accommodation
The Institute offers a unique chance to live in the atmospheric and historic Old City of Damascus, which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The house is situated off the biblical Straight Street and close to the Roman gate Bab Sharqi. The recently restored Zeitouna house has five guestrooms for scholars, students and others interested in experiencing Damascus.
The guests share the bathrooms, the kitchen and the dining room. The rooms and the kitchen are equipped with dishes, cookware, a dishwasher, bed linen and towels. There is also a laundry machine and an iron. The guests have access to the Internet, TV and the Institute’s library. Notice that the wireless internet connection may not be working at all times. There are fans in the rooms but no air conditioning. In wintertime the central heating is working in the rooms at 6 pm – 11 am.
For accommodation preference is given to students and researchers, but other visitors are welcome as well. Those staying at the Institute will be asked for a copy of the first page of their passport. The means of payment are cash (Syrian Pounds or Euros) or Euros tranferred through the institute’s bank account. The latter must be agreed beforehand.
